Jones Hall

University of Minnesota,  Minneapolis, MN

Jones Hall is the front door of the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus. It houses the admissions center, which provides all campus tours and welcomes all incoming freshmen. Over the past 3 years, a significant amount of work has gone into enhancing the landscape surrounding the building.

In the case of the NE corner of the building, this project was especially complex as it included underground structure and water infiltration issues. The resulting solution utilized a rubber membrane to serve as waterproofing for the tunnel, and a drain tile system to capture stormwater and infiltrate it into a dry well in the north lawn.

The project also conceived of a small lawn terrace and seat wall to serve as a gathering point for campus tours. With sustainability in mind, large window sill blocks, salvaged from a previous demolition project on campus, were utilized as the structural edge of the terrace.
