Mondale Hall Meadow

University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN

Roughly an acre of turf lawn was converted to a combination of low-input landscapes, including rain gardens, “no-mow” fescue lawn, and a large meadow. The meadow was established through an innovative means, utilizing washed sand as a growing medium. The result is a vibrant and colorful landscape with blooming flowers all season. A combination of perennials, bi-annuals, and self-seeding annual flowers produced an immediate impact in the first year of installation.

Working with Urban Ecosystems as a consultant, I oversaw the design and installation of this project.
